Updates on Hurricane Milton

 Post Hurricane Milton Update - October 10, 2024 - 4:00 pm

As a follow up to today's 11:00 am report:

All of John's Island has power, but there is no internet service to the entire property. This is not just a John's Island outage;  it is county-wide. Xfinity is aware of the issue and they are working on it. They have not yet given us a definitive date when service will be restored.

As a result of the internet service being down, neither JIPOA's nor Security's regular phone lines are working. If you need any assistance, please call Security at 772-473-5726.

Yesterday afternoon from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, we experienced a tremendous amount of rainfall in a very short period of time, causing the roadways to flood throughout the property. Most of the standing water has dissipated.  Overnight, we experienced high wind gusts on property resulting in debris on the roadways. Please use caution when moving around the property.

John's Island was extremely fortunate not to have had more damage. Several very large tornados touched down in Indian River County ahead of the storm yesterday.  One occurred right down the street, near the Jaycee Park/Village Market area causing extensive damages to homes and businesses.

There was massive flooding in the county along with a tremendous amount of debris.  Some areas of the county are still inaccessible.

JIPOA staff, including Maintenance and Security, have been working all day to get the property in order so that it may open for normal business tomorrow.

The east, west, and south riverside gates are open for resident ingress/egress. The south ocean gate will remain closed due to technical difficulties today. It will reopen on Friday, October 11th.

As of 2:30 pm, all bridges in the city and county are now open to access the island.

The property will be open on Friday for all services to include contractors, landscapers, caretakers, housekeepers, pool services, etc. at 7:30 am.

Please note landscapers will be permitted on property Saturday for full-service, non-restricted work to clean up properties from the storm.  LANDSCAPERS MUST TAKE THE DEBRIS WITH THEM.  WE HAVE NO SITE FOR DUMPING DEBRIS, NOR SHOULD DEBRIS BE PILED BY THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AS THERE WILL BE NO PICKUP BY REFUSE COMPANIES.

We will continue to update you as we gather more information.
